John's amateur astronomy: Quickcam Astrophotography

I picked up a quickcam on eBay for $45 in mid-September, 1998, and scrounged up an old 486 laptop from work. The Quickcam soon lost its old case, and gained a new one, courtesy of the plumbing department at the local hardware store.

Sky & Telescope, June 1998 had an article about using QuickCams for astrophotography. You can order back issues here.

Here are a few pictures taken with the camera so far.

If you look carefully, you can see two moons of jupiter, one in the upper left and one in the lower right corner.

Jupiter again, 10 days later.

The moon, about 1st quarter, 9/28/98.

The moon again, same night.

UPDATE 8/27/2000: I haven't used the Quickcam for a while, and when I finally took it out to try again, it was dead. So I probably won't be doing any more QuickCam work. There are a lot of people out there doing work with the QuickCam though, so I'll try to link to them.
